Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, added a staggering $497 million to his fortune this week as the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) experienced a strong bull run driven by renewed investor confidence and surging demand for industrial stocks.
The billionaire’s gains came primarily from his holdings in Dangote Cement Plc and NASCON Allied Industries Plc, both of which saw significant share price increases amid market optimism and improved earnings outlooks.
Market data showed that Dangote Cement shares climbed over 4.2%, while NASCON, the company’s salt and seasoning arm, recorded a 3.8% gain during Thursday’s trading session. The combined rally pushed the market capitalization of Dangote’s listed companies to new highs.
According to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index, Dangote’s net worth has now risen to approximately $17.6 billion, reinforcing his position as Africa’s wealthiest individual and one of the most powerful figures in global manufacturing.
Analysts attribute the current market rally to strong corporate earnings, steady foreign inflows, and the government’s ongoing fiscal reforms aimed at boosting investor confidence.
“Investors are showing renewed interest in blue-chip stocks, and Dangote’s industrial portfolio is benefiting the most from this momentum,” said Tunde Oke, a Lagos-based financial analyst.
The NGX All-Share Index gained 1.7% at the close of trading on Thursday, marking one of its best single-day performances in weeks. Dangote’s diversified businesses from cement and sugar to fertilizers and oil refining remain key drivers of Nigeria’s industrial growth.
