The Nigerian naira showed slight firmness on October 6, 2025, with the United States dollar trading at ₦1,485 in the official market.
According to data from foreign exchange tracking platforms, this rate reflects a modest strengthening of the naira compared to earlier periods in 2025.
Meanwhile, in the parallel or “black market” where informal foreign exchange trading takes place the dollar was reportedly exchanging at rates ranging between ₦1,490 and ₦1,495.
What’s Driving the Movement
- Market Corrections: Some analysts believe the adjustment aligns with efforts to stabilize the naira after periods of volatility earlier this year.
- CBN Policies: The Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) interventions in the foreign exchange market and recent shifts in monetary policy may have contributed to containing sharp fluctuations.
- Inflows & Speculation: Foreign exchange inflows, demand pressure, and speculative activity continue to shape daily rate movements.
What This Means
For importers and businesses reliant on dollar-denominated inputs, the modest appreciation may offer slight relief. However, volatility in the parallel market still poses challenges to pricing, risk management, and planning.
