Zenith Bank Plc has once again secured its position as Nigeria’s number one Tier-1 financial institution, marking its 16th consecutive year at the top, according to the latest rankings by The Banker magazine in its 2025 Top 1000 World Banks list.
The prestigious ranking, which evaluates banks globally based on Tier-1 capital — a key measure of financial strength — reaffirms Zenith’s longstanding dominance in Nigeria’s banking sector.
“This recognition is a testament to our strong governance, robust risk management, and commitment to innovation,” said Ebenezer Onyeagwu, Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank.
Strong Financial Performance Fuels Ranking
Zenith Bank’s consistent top-tier status is attributed to its solid capital base, impressive earnings, and strategic investments in digital infrastructure. In its 2024 financial report, the bank posted a profit before tax of over ₦400 billion, underscoring its operational resilience amid global economic headwinds.
“Our focus remains on delivering value to shareholders and ensuring operational excellence,” Onyeagwu added.
Recognition on a Global Stage
The Top 1000 World Banks ranking by The Banker, a publication of the Financial Times Group, is widely regarded as a benchmark of global banking performance. Zenith’s placement highlights the growing competitiveness of Nigerian banks on the international stage.
Setting the Pace for the Industry
With this latest recognition, Zenith Bank continues to set the standard for the Nigerian banking industry, especially as financial institutions navigate post-pandemic recovery, currency reforms, and rising regulatory expectations.
