Plateau to host maiden technology festival

The Plateau State Government has announced plans to host the first-ever Plateau State Science, Technology and Innovation Festival (PLASSTIFEST), scheduled for June 1 to 3, 2026, in Jos.

The event will take place at the Crispan Suites and Event Centre and is expected to bring together innovators, investors, policymakers, and technology enthusiasts from within and outside the state.

Speaking during a press briefing, the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Cletus Shurkuk, said the festival is designed to showcase Plateau’s innovation potential and position the state as a hub for science and technology development.

He explained that the initiative aligns with Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s vision of driving economic transformation through innovation and youth empowerment.

According to him, the theme of the festival, “Reimagining Plateau: Driving Innovation and Technology for a Smarter and Sustainable Future,” reflects the state’s ambition to use technology to address challenges in education, agriculture, mining, infrastructure, and youth unemployment.

Shurkuk said the three-day event will feature exhibitions by startups and innovators, panel discussions, innovation awards, and networking sessions aimed at connecting participants with investors and mentors.

He added that the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Kingsley Udeh, is expected to deliver the keynote address, while describing the festival as a platform to promote entrepreneurship and job creation.

The commissioner also noted that PLASSTIFEST will not be a one-off event, but part of a broader, year-round innovation programme involving mentorship and community engagement.

He urged students, researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors to take advantage of the opportunity to showcase ideas and contribute to the state’s economic development.
