LASU Mass Communication Students Gain Real-World Publishing Insight During Visit to Worital

In a move aimed at strengthening practical learning, Worital recently hosted 200-level Mass Communication students from Lagos State University (LASU) for an educational tour focused on the intricacies of book publishing. The visit formed part of the students’ academic project requirements and was designed to provide industry exposure beyond classroom theory.

The session offered a comprehensive breakdown of the publishing value chain. Students engaged in meaningful dialogue with members of the Worital team, asking detailed questions about content acquisition, manuscript screening, editing standards, branding strategies, and distribution planning. The interaction allowed them to connect textbook knowledge with real industry practices.

Worital representatives provided a structured presentation outlining how departments within the company function in alignment. Students were shown how creative teams, editors, designers, and production managers collaborate to ensure that each manuscript meets professional standards before publication.

Speaking after the engagement, the Worital team described the visit as mutually beneficial, noting that the students’ enthusiasm reflected a promising future for Nigeria’s publishing and media industry.

Voices from the Students

Students described the visit as highly engaging and insightful. Bamise Oluwamuyiwa Adeoluwa explained that seeing publishing operations firsthand made the theoretical concepts taught in class more relatable and practical.

Aramide Testimony Okunboh expressed appreciation for the detailed explanation of manuscript editing and book design, adding that understanding client communication strategies was particularly valuable.

David Daniella Princess remarked on the strong collaborative culture within the organization, observing how different units depend on each other to achieve quality output. She described the studio environment as one of the highlights of the tour.

Oghedo Jesunifemi Onyinyechi pointed out that the visit clarified the workflow structure within publishing firms, from manuscript submission to final print. Edidi Paul Ogotola noted that learning about operational challenges publishers face provided a realistic perspective often absent from academic discussions.

Students also thanked Ebube Nzom and Alabi Precious for their openness, mentorship, and hospitality throughout the visit.

Though parts of the facility were undergoing renovation, the experience remained educational and memorable.
