Alibaba Offers $1.5 Million in Grants to African Startups

Alibaba Philanthropy and the Jack Ma Foundation are awarding $1.5 million in grants to African entrepreneurs as part of the eighth edition of Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH). The 2026 edition, themed “Defining Africa’s Future Today,” seeks to support founders developing innovative solutions in sectors including climate-smart agriculture, digital finance, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, and emerging technologies.

The initiative aims to accelerate business growth, provide mentorship, and increase visibility for Africa-led companies capable of driving lasting economic transformation. ABH will expand its recognition pool to the top 100 finalists and increase engagement across ten African markets, with a focus on under-represented countries such as Namibia, Tunisia, and Zambia.

Finalists from previous editions will also gain access to a fully sponsored learning experience at Alibaba’s campus in Hangzhou, China. Eligible applicants must be African citizens or legal residents, lead registered businesses with at least three years of traction, and demonstrate a commitment to societal impact.

Since its inception, ABH has received more than 30,000 applications annually, establishing itself as a premier platform for solution-driven entrepreneurship across the continent.
