IFMA Nigeria Expands Smart Infrastructure Drive with Oyo Branch

The International Facility Management Association Nigeria Chapter has inaugurated its Oyo State branch as part of efforts to modernise the built environment in South-west Nigeria.

The move marks a transition from traditional “break-fix” maintenance approaches to data-driven smart infrastructure and strategic asset management.

According to a statement released on Sunday, the inauguration took place during the association’s first strategic meeting of 2026 at the Nigerian Society of Engineers Secretariat in Ibadan. The event drew members of the National Executive Council and key industry stakeholders focused on strengthening professional standards in the region.

Delivering the keynote address, the President of the IFMA Nigeria Chapter, Engr. Sheriff Daramola, emphasised the connection between professional facility management and economic growth.

“IFMA members have taken positions of authority across federal, state, and private institutions. IFMA Nigeria is positioned to ensure our professionals are the first choice for global investors entering the Nigerian market,” he said.

Daramola added that with a global network of 25,000 members across 140 countries, the Oyo branch is well placed to localise international standards within the state, ensuring infrastructure aligns with global benchmarks.

Also speaking, the association’s Legal Adviser, Barr. Sola Fatoki, highlighted the interdisciplinary scope of facility management.

“Since 1997, the association has equipped facility management professionals with integrated knowledge spanning human behaviour, infrastructure, and the built environment. We encourage engineers, architects, surveyors, and technology innovators to see IFMA as their professional home,” he said.

The association noted that it has trained over 3,000 members nationwide. In a recent initiative, IFMA partnered with the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board to provide 40 technical graduates with advanced digital skills and mentorship aimed at supporting smart infrastructure development.

The newly appointed Oyo Branch Coordinator, ESV Adejumo Babatunde, pledged to promote unity and professional growth within the state.

“Our focus will be on unity and the professional advancement of all stakeholders to ensure the success of the branch and the growth of the industry in Oyo State,” he said.

Babatunde will serve alongside Engr. Ajiboye Akeem as Secretary and Mrs. Adeniran Olaide as Treasurer. The branch leadership has been tasked with building a pipeline of globally certified professionals holding FMP, CFM and SFP credentials to oversee the state’s evolving infrastructure landscape.
