Dangote Refinery Resumes Petrol Sales After Week-Long Halt, Adjusts Pump Price Upwards

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) after suspending supply for one week, with motorists now facing a price increase.

Industry sources confirmed that the refinery, which halted sales to distributors last week due to market adjustments, has reopened its loading bays to marketers. However, the pump price has been reviewed upward, a move stakeholders say reflects prevailing market realities, including crude oil costs and foreign exchange rates.

Marketers noted that while the resumption would ease scarcity fears, the price adjustment could trigger fresh debates over affordability and government oversight in the downstream sector.

The Dangote Refinery, commissioned earlier this year, has become a key supplier in Nigeria’s petroleum market, with its pricing decisions closely monitored by both regulators and consumers.

Economic analysts predict that the development may lead to ripple effects in transportation costs and inflation, urging authorities to ensure competitive pricing in the interest of the public.
