The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the alleged diversion of goods valued at N185 million belonging to a Lagos-based company.
According to law enforcement authorities, the arrests followed a detailed investigation into a report filed by the logistics arm of the affected firm, which claimed its products had been unlawfully diverted en route to northern Nigeria.
The suspects, whose identities have not been disclosed pending further investigation, were reportedly part of a coordinated scheme to reroute multiple truckloads of goods meant for distribution across the North West region.
Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the arrests, stating that the operation was the result of close inter-state collaboration and surveillance.
“Our team acted on credible intelligence and successfully intercepted the individuals involved in the diversion of products worth approximately N185 million,” he said. “Investigations are ongoing, and we are committed to bringing all collaborators to justice.”
The police also revealed that efforts are underway to recover the diverted products and that the suspects will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
The Lagos-based company, which remains unnamed for legal reasons, praised the swift intervention by the police and called for tighter security protocols in Nigeria’s freight and logistics sector.
Industry observers have expressed growing concern over the increasing number of cargo diversion cases, which they say threaten investor confidence and disrupt supply chains critical to regional commerce.
Authorities have urged logistics firms to strengthen vetting processes for transport contractors and to adopt real-time tracking technologies to minimize the risk of such crimes.
