Nembe, Bayelsa State – On Friday, women from Nembe in the Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State staged a warning protest against Aiteo Eastern and Production Company, the operator of Oil Mining Licence 29.

The protesters, who gathered at the company’s loading point, displayed placards demanding a comprehensive clean-up following an oil spill that occurred on Monday, June 17, 2024. They also called for the provision of relief materials and payment of adequate compensation, among other demands.

Starting their protest at about 6:30 am, the women issued a two-week ultimatum to Aiteo to meet their demands. They warned that failure to comply would result in a full occupation of the company’s loading point at Nembe Creek.
