Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed his gratitude to the people of Lagos State for electing him as their Governor for a second term. He pledged to continue working tirelessly to deliver a better Lagos for all.Sanwo-Olu was declared the winner of the Lagos State governorship election held on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday night. He won the election with a total of 762,134 votes, defeating Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, who scored 312,329 votes, and Abdulazeez Adeniran of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 62,449 votes.In a tweet via his Twitter handle on Monday morning, Sanwo-Olu expressed his deep gratitude and humility for the overwhelming support and trust of the people of Lagos State. He also acknowledged that the victory was not just his, but belonged to every Lagosian.Sanwo-Olu further stated that the elections had tested the people of Lagos as a community, but that what unites them as Lagosians is far more important and substantial than whatever differences exist among them. He called for genuine healing to take place and reaffirmed his commitment to running an inclusive government that delivers for all the people of Lagos.He thanked the Almighty God, all Lagosians, his party (the All Progressives Congress), and President-Elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for their support. He also appreciated his wife, Ibijoke, his Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, and all fellow contestants for their contributions.Sanwo-Olu condemned the divisive rhetoric used during the course of the campaign, emphasizing that elections should be about capacity, competence, and experience, not ethnicity or religion. He also condemned recent skirmishes in some Local Government Areas (LGAs) resulting in injuries and directed law enforcement and security agencies to ensure that those found culpable face the full wrath of the law.In conclusion, Sanwo-Olu pledged to do everything in his power to continue delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Lagos.
