Lagos, July 27, 2023 – The International Women Society (IWS) Skills Acquisition Centre in Lekki, Lagos, recently bestowed the esteemed ‘Providers & Enablers’ Award upon Polaris Bank in recognition of the bank’s exceptional dedication to women’s empowerment. The award ceremony took place during a special graduation event held at the IWS Skills Centre.

The IWS Centre is renowned for its commitment to uplifting women in the community, and during the event, a powerful video presentation showcased the transformative impact of the partnership between Polaris Bank and the centre. Through various vocational and skills training programs, women from diverse backgrounds have been empowered to pursue their passions, unlock their potential, and become self-reliant contributors to society.

Mr. Kehinde Akinwunmi, the Principal of the IWS Skills Acquisition Centre, delivered a heartfelt speech expressing gratitude to Polaris Bank for their unwavering support in nurturing the dreams and aspirations of countless women. He highlighted the crucial role played by the bank in providing financial resources and scholarships to 21 students, allowing the centre to expand its reach and positively impact even more women.

Mrs. Yemi Akinrelere, Polaris Bank’s Head of Sustainability, received the award on behalf of the bank. In her response, she reaffirmed Polaris Bank’s commitment to advancing gender equality and promoting women’s empowerment in accordance with the Nigerian Sustainable Banking Principle’s principle 4. These efforts are deeply ingrained in the bank’s Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

The award recognizes Polaris Bank’s significant contributions to women’s empowerment, particularly through its support of vocational, skills training, and capacity-building programs for women, as implemented by the IWS Skills Acquisition Centre. One of the landmark contributions of Polaris Bank to the IWS Skills Acquisition Centre was the donation of a multi-million-naira ICT Laboratory for digital and ICT-related capacity building for students of the Centre, amongst other supports.
