Oando Clean Energy Limited (OCEL), alongside its technical partner Yutong Bus Co. Limited, has held discussions with officials from the Lagos Ministry of Transportation and the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) to advance their electric mass transit bus initiative in Lagos State.
The project, which has been operational for 18 months, has made notable progress, covering a total distance of 169,794 kilometers across key routes such as Oshodi-Obalende and Oshodi-Ikorodu. The electric buses have served over 300,000 riders, while reducing carbon emissions by 229,221.9 kilograms and generating cost savings of approximately N122.25 million, equivalent to 84,897 liters of diesel.
During the meeting, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, expressed the state government’s continued support for the electric bus initiative. He commended the reliability and adaptability of the buses, stating that their long-term cost-efficiency makes them a sustainable choice for Lagos’ public transport transformation.
James Li, Vice President of Yutong, reassured stakeholders of his company’s commitment to providing sustainable transportation solutions and supporting OCEL in achieving the project’s goals. He emphasized that the partnership’s focus is not just on selling buses, but on improving the quality of life for Lagos residents through cleaner and more efficient transportation.
The collaboration between OCEL, Yutong, the Lagos Ministry of Transportation, and LAMATA aims to create a greener, more efficient public transportation system for Lagos, contributing to the reduction of emissions, alleviating traffic congestion, and promoting economic and social benefits for the state.
