In a joint effort to boost their maritime education programs, the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) in Ondo State and the Caribbean Maritime University in Jamaica have officially extended their collaboration. This renewed five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for student and staff exchange signifies a commitment to fostering educational growth in the maritime sector.

Professor Temi Ologunorisa, Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH, recently returned from Jamaica, where he and Professor Andrew Spencer, the President of the Caribbean Maritime University, signed the updated MoU. The previous agreement, initially established in 2017, expired in December 2022.

Ologunorisa emphasized the significance of this new MoU, which will be in effect from 2023 to 2028. He explained, “This updated MoU aligns with my vision for internationalizing OAUSTECH and contributing to the development of Nigeria’s Blue Economy. Its purpose is to support OAUSTECH in cultivating the necessary talent and expertise required for the advancement of Nigeria’s maritime industry.”

The MoU encompasses a range of initiatives, including student and staff exchanges, collaborative research, joint publications, and the facilitation of visiting professorships in the field of maritime education and the Blue Economy.
