The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has clarified the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) recent deployment of aircraft in Gombe State, following the hijacking of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest by rogue elements. Abubakar stated that the deployment was necessary for additional security measures amid escalating unrest.
In a statement released on Saturday, Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, AVM Edward Gabkwet, explained that the aircraft was used for reconnaissance missions, while the NAF’s regiment forces collaborated with other security services to manage the situation.
During a meeting in Gombe with State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized that the violence and property destruction prompted the need for heightened security. He underscored the NAF’s role in upholding democratic values and maintaining order during such critical times.
Governor Yahaya praised the NAF 109 Combat Reconnaissance Group for their effective handling of looting and theft associated with the protest. He acknowledged the challenging circumstances but commended the NAF and other security agencies for their efforts in ensuring public safety. Yahaya also assured the Chief of Air Staff of his government’s support in providing necessary infrastructure to enhance the unit’s operational efficiency.
The statement highlighted the ongoing commitment of the NAF and other security agencies to protect democratic institutions and maintain stability across the nation.
