The National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) has achieved the prestigious Quality Management System (QMS) ISO 9001:2015 certification from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) following a meticulous two-year process. The certification was presented to NAPTIN during a ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, where the Minister of Power, Engr Abubakar D. Aliyu, highlighted its significance in advancing capacity-building reforms within the power sector.

Engr Aliyu, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Power, Nebeolisa Anako, expressed the ministry’s commitment to following NAPTIN’s lead in obtaining certification. He emphasized the pursuit of excellence across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Engr Aliyu noted, “Excellence is what I ask all of us, from other MDAs, to strive towards.”

Engr Ahmed Nagode, the Director General of NAPTIN, applauded the institute’s staff for their hard work, tenacity, and commitment during the two-year journey toward certification. He stressed that the achievement would complement NAPTIN’s role as a center of excellence in training. This marks the second time that an agency in the power sector has secured the ISO 9001:2015 certification, with the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) achieving the same recognition in November 2020.

Farouk Salim, the Director General of SON, lauded NAPTIN for joining the ranks of 722 organizations with robust quality management systems. He emphasized that the certification is subject to annual audits and cautioned that corrective actions must be taken on observed non-conformances to maintain the certification’s validity.

Chidi Ike, the Commissioner of Engineering, Performance, and Monitoring at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), highlighted the international recognition of NAPTIN’s training certificates due to the ISO certification. Ike noted, “It is no longer a Nigerian thing, and the training certificate given by NAPTIN to trainees is recognized all over the world because of this certification.”
