MTN Nigeria Communication PLC has expressed concern over the widespread vandalism of its sites, infrastructure, and national assets, not only in the South East but across Nigeria as a whole.

Callima Inino, the General Manager of Regional Operations in the East, made this revelation during the inaugural Anambra Investment Summit 2023 held in Awka, Anambra State. The summit was themed ‘Role of Corporate Governance in Building Sustainable Businesses.’

Inino highlighted the challenges faced by MTN, including deliberate damage to fiber-optic cables during construction activities and issues related to signal boosters affecting network quality. He emphasized the importance of addressing these challenges to ensure uninterrupted services for customers, especially during emergencies.

He also stated MTN’s commitment to partnering with the government to protect its infrastructure and provide quality and efficient service delivery to the people.

Despite these challenges, Inino asserted MTN’s dominance in the region, claiming that the company controls over 50% of the subscriber base in Anambra alone. MTN has deployed a network of over 7,000 agents covering towns, local councils, and villages throughout the state, serving 300 merchants and expanding its reach to deliver high-quality services.

Inino highlighted Anambra’s potential as a market for MTN, especially with a population of over eight million and the proposed smart mega city.

The Anambra Investment Summit is an annual event aimed at creating a conducive business environment for investors and fostering economic growth in the state.

Christian Aburime, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, emphasized the summit’s significance in Governor Soludo’s efforts to transform Anambra State and attract investment opportunities.

“It is in the relentless quest of Governor Soludo to transform Anambra State that the state government is set to host an extraordinary investment event that promises to be an eye-opener for the business community in Nigeria and beyond,” Aburime said.
