Kaduna — The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has sealed the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) due to a tax liability of N600 million. The action, carried out in the early hours of Friday, was in response to a court order aimed at enforcing payment of the outstanding tax amount.
Jerry Adams, Executive Chairman of KADIRS, explained that the N600 million liability covers the period from 2015 to 2022. He noted that KAEDCO had previously agreed to pay a significant portion of the liability but had failed to fulfill its commitment since the amount was established last year.
“We are backed by the law to seal and take over their premises in order to ensure compliance, and that is what we executed this morning,” Adams stated. He urged other businesses, individuals, and organizations to ensure voluntary compliance with tax payments.
The action against KAEDCO follows a recent trend where KADIRS has also sealed telecommunications masts for non-payment of taxes, highlighting a broader effort to enforce tax compliance in the state.
