IBEDC Urges Customers to Avoid Cash Payments to Unauthorized Metering Agents

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has issued a warning to its customers against making cash payments to unauthorized metering agents. This caution comes as IBEDC announces the availability of new meter stocks acquired through the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme, aimed at enhancing service delivery and addressing concerns over estimated billing.

Francis Agoha, the Acting Managing Director of IBEDC, emphasized the importance of using the dedicated platform designed under the MAP scheme for meter acquisition to ensure a seamless and secure process. He urged customers to register and make payments through the official IBEDC website to safeguard their transactions.

“In light of recent reports on unauthorized individuals collecting cash payments for meters and other services, we strongly advise IBEDC customers against engaging in such transactions,” Agoha stated in a released statement.

IBEDC has provided multiple secure payment options to facilitate convenient transactions for its customers. For those with limited access to online services who must make cash payments, the company emphasized the importance of obtaining a valid receipt for every transaction to prevent potential fraud.

“We urge all customers to exercise caution and avoid dealing with unauthorized agents claiming to represent IBEDC,” Agoha warned, stressing the importance of verifying credentials and transactions through official channels to ensure transparency and security.
