Lafarge Africa Strengthens Market Position with N132.7bn Profit Surge

Lagos, Nigeria Cement giant Lafarge Africa Plc has emerged as the most liquid company among its peers in the building materials sector, posting a robust profit after tax of N132.7 billion for the 2024 financial year. This marks a significant leap in earnings, reinforcing investor confidence and consolidating the company’s leadership in Nigeria’s construction industry.

The audited results, released on Wednesday, revealed that Lafarge Africa also maintained strong cash flow positions and low debt exposure, giving it an edge over competitors such as BUA Cement and Dangote Cement in terms of liquidity ratios and capital efficiency.

Key drivers of the profit surge include operational efficiency, strategic cost management, and increased market demand fueled by infrastructure projects across the country. The company’s revenue grew steadily, supported by higher cement sales and cost optimization efforts.

Speaking on the performance, Lafarge Africa’s Chief Executive Officer, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said:

“Our results demonstrate resilience and strategic execution in a challenging macroeconomic environment. We remain committed to delivering value to our stakeholders and sustaining our leadership in sustainable building solutions.”

In addition to profitability, the company’s liquidity metrics were lauded by market analysts. Its current ratio and quick ratio outperformed industry averages, making it a standout performer in terms of solvency and short-term financial health.

Analysts believe the strong balance sheet positions Lafarge Africa for further expansion, mergers, or capital investments without resorting to high debt financing.

The board has recommended a final dividend payout, subject to shareholder approval, reflecting the company’s commitment to rewarding investors.

As infrastructure spending rises and the demand for housing grows across Nigeria and West Africa, Lafarge Africa is well-positioned to sustain its momentum into the new fiscal year.
