The House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee on Monday issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Ibadan, Benin, and Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Companies to appear before it over N100 billion owed to the Federal Government.
The summons follows repeated failures by the three Discos to honour previous invitations, with members describing their conduct as “deliberate legislative contempt.”
Chaired by Bamidele Salam, the PAC warned that sanctions would be imposed if the companies fail to appear on December 18, 2025. The debt, part of a broader N2.6 trillion investigation, stems from unremitted revenues and statutory obligations documented in the Auditor-General’s 2021 and 2022 reports.
The committee emphasised that the intervention aims to enforce accountability, recover public funds, and strengthen fiscal discipline in Nigeria’s power sector.
