The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port Harcourt II Area Command, has recorded ₦731.2 billion in revenue collection and intercepted 75 containers of contraband in 2025, surpassing its annual target.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Theophilus Duniya, who described the achievement as a significant milestone in revenue generation and enforcement.
According to Duniya, the command was initially given a revenue target of ₦700.01 billion for 2025 but exceeded it by ₦31.19 billion, representing a 4.46 per cent increase. He attributed the performance to effective leadership and operational efficiency under the Area Controller, Comptroller Aliyu Alkali.
Duniya said Comptroller Alkali successfully implemented the policy direction of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, alongside the Unified Customs Management System, known as the B’Odogwu platform, which enhanced cargo clearance and operational effectiveness.
He added that the command maintained strict adherence to standard operating procedures, enforced discipline among officers, and sustained regular engagement with stakeholders, all of which contributed to the positive outcome.
Speaking on the achievement, Comptroller Alkali expressed appreciation to the management of the Nigeria Customs Service for providing an enabling environment that supported the command’s success. He also commended critical stakeholders and officers of the command for their dedication, diligence, and professionalism.
Alkali disclosed that the 75 intercepted containers had a cumulative duty paid value of ₦47.6 billion. He noted that 30 of the containers were found to contain expired, illicit, and unregistered pharmaceutical products, while others violated various provisions of the Customs and Excise laws.
He stressed that the seizures were intended to deter smuggling and other illegal trade practices, urging importers and customs-licensed agents to make honest declarations. Alkali reaffirmed the command’s commitment to facilitating legitimate trade while enforcing customs regulations with integrity and professionalism.
