Oil Marketers Set to Lift 600 Million Litres of Petrol from Dangote Refinery

Oil marketers in Nigeria have confirmed plans to lift 600 million litres of petrol from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, marking a significant step toward easing the country’s fuel supply challenges and reducing reliance on imports.

According to reports, major and independent marketers have finalized logistics and documentation processes to begin large-scale lifting of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the refinery, which recently began full commercial operations.

The 600 million-litre target represents the first major domestic distribution batch since the refinery commenced fuel production, signaling improved local supply capacity and potential price stability in the downstream sector.

Speaking on the development, the National Controller of Operations, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), confirmed that marketers are prepared for distribution across the country.

“We have completed the necessary agreements, and loading will commence in phases,” the official said. “This milestone will help address fuel scarcity concerns and strengthen national energy security.”

Industry experts have described the move as a breakthrough for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, noting that the Dangote Refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, has the potential to make the country self-sufficient in refined products.

“This volume of petrol supply from Dangote will reduce pressure on foreign exchange, curb smuggling, and stabilize the market,” said energy analyst Bode Olatunji.

The refinery’s entry into the domestic market is expected to bring relief to consumers, as marketers predict improved supply chain efficiency and reduced dependence on imported fuel.

Observers, however, caution that distribution logistics, pricing mechanisms, and government regulatory alignment will determine how quickly the benefits reach end users across Nigeria.
