Tinubu Urges CBN to Establish Endowment Fund for Nigeria’s Creative Industry

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to create an endowment fund dedicated to supporting the country’s creative sector.

Speaking at a recent engagement with stakeholders in the arts and entertainment industry, Tinubu stressed that Nigeria’s creative economy has become a global force, contributing significantly to national revenue, job creation, and international visibility.

The President noted that an institutionalized endowment fund would provide sustainable financing for filmmakers, musicians, designers, writers, and other creatives, helping them scale their craft and compete internationally.

“The creative sector is one of Nigeria’s greatest assets. We must nurture it, fund it, and protect it. With proper support, it can rival oil in terms of economic impact,” Tinubu said.

Analysts say the move, if implemented, could provide structured financing for an industry that has often struggled with access to credit and infrastructure, despite its rapid growth.

The proposal is expected to spark discussions between the CBN, government agencies, and private sector players on how best to structure the fund for maximum impact.
