Oil Sector Disruption as PENGASSAN Strike Forces Shutdown of NNPC, NUPRC, NMDPRA Offices

Nigeria’s oil and gas industry was thrown into turmoil on Monday as the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) commenced an indefinite strike, leading to the closure of key regulatory and operational offices.

The industrial action has effectively shut down the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

PENGASSAN leadership said the strike became necessary following unresolved disputes over welfare demands and alleged poor handling of workers’ concerns by the management of critical oil institutions.

Industry stakeholders warn that the development could disrupt fuel supply, regulatory operations, and overall stability in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector if not urgently addressed.

The Federal Government is yet to officially respond to the shutdown as negotiations with the union remain pending.
