ICSAN Urges Federal Government to Establish Framework for AI Regulation

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) has called on the Federal Government to introduce a comprehensive governance framework for Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ensure ethical use and national security.

Speaking at a recent policy forum in Lagos, ICSAN officials warned that while AI offers immense opportunities for economic growth and efficiency, its unregulated application could pose risks to privacy, jobs, and social stability.

The institute stressed the need for Nigeria to develop national guidelines on AI deployment, aligning with global best practices while tailoring policies to local realities.

“AI is no longer futuristic—it is already influencing governance, education, health, and financial systems. Without a national governance structure, the country risks being left behind or exposed to misuse,” an ICSAN representative noted.

Analysts say the call aligns with growing concerns worldwide about the unchecked use of AI technologies, especially in developing economies.

ICSAN urged policymakers, private sector players, and civil society to collaborate in creating a balanced framework that encourages innovation while safeguarding public interest.
