Lagos, Nigeria Ride-hailing platform Bolt has announced the introduction of dashboard cameras in partner vehicles as part of a new initiative aimed at strengthening rider and driver safety across Nigeria.
The safety-driven upgrade, which is being rolled out in phases, will see selected Bolt drivers equipped with high-definition dashcams capable of recording trips in real-time. According to the company, this move is in response to rising concerns over safety and misconduct in the ride-hailing industry.
“We are committed to ensuring every ride on our platform is safe, respectful, and secure for both passengers and drivers,” said Yahaya Mohammed, Country Manager for Bolt Nigeria. “The introduction of dashboard cameras adds an extra layer of transparency and acts as a deterrent against inappropriate behaviour.”
The footage captured will only be accessible under specific circumstances, such as when resolving reported incidents or responding to law enforcement requests, Bolt clarified. Privacy safeguards are being put in place to ensure compliance with Nigeria’s data protection regulations.
Riders will be notified
