The Dangote Group’s ambitious plan to deploy 3,550 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks across Nigeria has hit a setback as global shipping disruptions delay the bulk of deliveries.
According to company sources, only 450 trucks have so far arrived in the country, with thousands still held up at international ports due to the ongoing global logistics crisis.
The initiative, part of Dangote’s strategy to cut fuel costs and promote cleaner energy alternatives, was expected to ease transportation challenges and reduce dependence on diesel. However, the shipping gridlock has slowed the project’s timeline.
Industry experts say the delays could impact Nigeria’s energy transition targets and slow efforts to lower freight costs in critical sectors such as food distribution and manufacturing.
Despite the setback, Dangote Group assured that the trucks already delivered will be deployed immediately while it works with shipping partners to fast-track the release of the remaining consignment.
